"There is more to listening than meets the ear" –Pauline Oliveros

April 9

How Sound Listens – Lauren Waggoner
Soundology, Gongs, Singing Bowls

What do we learn about ourselves from the very nature of sound?

We’ll tune to new frequencies as we explore the Soundology approach to active listening in a Sound Immersion…and in Life. Understand the symbiotic relationship between listening and speaking; receiving and creating; rest and action. Observe what it means to be in alignment or in resistance; in resonance or in dissonance. Can WE hear our emotions? Can WE feel our thoughts?

Through stimulating lecture and embodied experience, participants will blur the boundaries between senses, and experience a new relationship with their bodies and their surroundings. Participants will also practice a new way of “playing” the gongs and the single bowls, learning secrets of the divine dance between instrument and player that may prompt a new inquiry: who is the player and who is the instrument?
